Delinquency

Rent and other charges that are past due and unpaid by residents.

Delinquency is usually reported as a dollar total and as a rate: delinquent balances divided by rent charged for the period. It is often aged into buckets such as 0–30, 31–60 and over 60 days past due.

Delinquency directly reduces cash flow to owners, and older balances are much harder to collect. A consistent process of reminders, late fees, payment plans and, where needed, legal notices keeps it under control.
