Leasing

Notice to vacate

Written notice from a resident, or a landlord, that the tenancy will end and the unit will be vacated on a given date.

Leases usually require residents to give notice, often 30 or 60 days, before moving out at or before lease end. Once notice is received, the unit counts as on notice, can be pre-leased and shown, and the move-out and turn can be planned.

Landlord-issued notices to end a tenancy follow separate legal rules on timing and reasons that vary by location. Check local law before sending one.
